Break out the bunting and bring on the bake-offs as we look forward to celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee during a special extended Bank Holiday weekend! We’ve scoured the city to give you an idea of the different things that are going on in Lincoln over the Bank Holiday.
More than 5,000 street parties took place last year to celebrate the Royal Wedding and with this year set to be no different why not organise your very own street party and take part in the
Big Jubilee Lunch on Sunday 3rd June 2012? It’s a great excuse to get to know your neighbours and have a party!
To get into the royal swing of things there will be a special Jubilee event in St Mark’s Square prior to the Bank Holiday weekend on 26th May from 11am until 4pm. Making a special appearance will be a Kate Middleton look-a-like who will be on hand to judge a cake baking contest. So any budding bakers out there need to enter their best recipe by 12 noon to be in with a chance of winning £200 worth of St Mark’s vouchers!
Why not start the Bank Holiday by supporting a local charity in the beautiful gardens at the Golden Eagle pub where St Barnabas Jubilee Live & Local will be showcasing some of Lincoln’s finest talent on Saturday 2nd June? Take the whole family as there will be children’s activities including a bouncy castle, giant games and face painting. There will also be offers on real ale, a BBQ and a quiz in the evening!
After a restful day on Sunday take a visit to Lincoln Castle which is having a special evening event on 4th June. The event is free (tickets limited to five per household) and will include the lighting of three beacons as part of a chain across the county, country, and other parts of the Queen’s realm. Entertainment will include medieval encampments, puppetry and appearances by lookalikes of Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth I.
North Hykeham Town Council is hosting a large event on 5th June on Witham Fields off Fen Lane from 12 noon until 5pm. There will be a variety of attractions such as a dog show, live music, an inflatable boxing ring and gloves, a gladiator duel, bouncy castle, bungee run and a sporting coach which is being provided by Energize for children between eight and twelve.
They will also be having 50s style games including hoop-la, a coconut shy and hook-a-duck and there will be a selection of different stalls including crafts and gifts, vintage cushions and antiques and home-made preserves. A fancy dress competition for the best dressed king and queen will also be judged on the day.
If you’re looking for something that will see you partying into the early hours why not try out Lincoln’s newest club Lola Lo which is holding a whole host of Jubilicious events? Kicking off the Bank Holiday is the Kitsch Jubilee Carnival on 31st May which will celebrate everything British such as picture opportunities with a famous British icon, Jubilee cocktails and face mask giveaways!
Lola Lo brings the weekend to a close with Diamonds, Champagne & Cosmetics which will see the girls receive royal treatment!
