With just seven days to go until the Olympics don’t worry if you didn’t manage to get tickets for the Games – now you don’t have to travel to London to experience it!
To celebrate this global event Lincoln BIG will assemble a giant 12-metre square screen on the Lincoln Live site in the city’s Cornhill which will show all of the main sporting events throughout the games.
Rachel Hanson, Lincoln BIG Events and Promotions Organiser, commented: “The Lincoln LIVE screen is going in front of the Corn Exchange building on the Cornhill – an area already decorated with this year’s Olympic flags.
“It will be fronted by a section of artificial grass, which is going on top of the recently-laid paving. Tables and chairs will also be set out in continental café-style in an adjacent area, so we hope people will pop into local businesses, buy themselves some refreshments, sit down and make the most of this highlight in the UK’s calendar.
“The first thing that people will be able to watch on the BIG Screen will be the opening ceremony, which will feature an impressive flypast by the famous Lincolnshire-based Red Arrows.
“The screen will be on every day, from 10am through until 9pm, right up until the final ceremony on August 12. We are working closely with the team at BBC Look North regarding the programming and hope to include as much coverage of local athletes as possible.
“Signs will be on display giving details of any programme changes, but people are also being encouraged to keep up to date by regularly visiting www.lovelincoln.co.uk”
The installation of the BIG screen follows other Olympic celebrations such as the torch visiting the city and the hugely successful Festival of Light on Brayford waterfront at the end of last month. Both tourists and locals will be able to take a break and catch up on things as they happen and even if people are out and about they won’t have to miss out on any of the action!
