Cyclists will take over on the weekend of 7th and 8th May when the Lincoln Festival of Cycling rolls into the city.
The festival begins with Saturday’s first Lincoln Grand Prix Sportive, an event for all classes of cyclists which takes the bravest riders on a 92-mile loop via the picturesque Lincolnshire Wolds and some tough climbs around Tetford and Ruckland.
There is also a 55-mile route for the not quite so brave but both events bring the riders to the finish line in Castle Square via the 1-in-6 climb up cobbled Michaelgate climb – a real sting in the tail!
On Sunday 8th May Velo Club Lincoln stages the 56th annual Lincoln Grand Prix which starts at Yarborough Leisure Centre at 10am and is expected to finish in Castle Square at 1.30pm.
Around 160 riders will take part in the 86-mile race which consists of eleven laps of an eight mile circuit. The course is based around the historic centre of Lincoln with an excursion out and back through the village of Burton – stay clear of the roads people!
There will also be a chance for others to join in with circuit races for local school clubs and riders and a short course in uphill Lincoln, giving youngsters a valuable experience of what it’s like to race at a major event.
